Jeff Barber’s new Upwind roleplaying game funded in only 13 hours on Kickstarter and generous backers have supported it to a fourth stretch goal. Now in it’s final week, the most amazing stretch goals remain. Next is Upwind Incursion, a complete print-&-play Skyship Combat Game. We may also unlock a new short story and then TickTock, a complete alternate setting for use with the innovative Q System introduced in Upwind.
A co-production of Nocturnal Media and Biohazard Games, Upwind is a narrative style RPG set in a strange alternate world of floating island nations, flying sailing ships, long-lost technology, wild elemental powers, looming war and forgotten legacies. The full-color hardcover RPG is already joined by four free bonus extras for project backers: an "illuminated” character sheet; a navigational poster portraying the uncanny geography of Upwind — the Kingdoms in the Light, the Twilight Frontier and the Dark; an Upwind mini-campaign written by Ross Payton, host of Role Playing Public Radio (a great site that features an interview with Jeff Barber); and a Ships of the Realms Identification Poster. The free adventure ties directly into and expands the gameplay for The Prophecy of the Grand Amplifier, a campaign sourcebook also available in the in the project.
Not only is the setting of Upwind exciting, but it features the Q(uantum) system that you may preview. The Q System is an original stakes-based, playing card-driven mechanic that gives every encounter consequences with meaningful, narrative-building outcomes. With its unique bidding rules, Upwind plays as fast as you can tell your story.
